Exploring the Bulletproof Range Rover for Those Considering Mechanic Training
Mechanic training will provide you will the skills you’ll need to maintain, service, and repair vehicles. Once you’ve earned your diploma, your knowledge and expertise will help you gain access to a wide range of job opportunities within mechanic shops, auto company garages and more.
One particular auto company, Jaguar Land Rover, has recently begun pushing today’s automotive boundaries, as it has introduced an innovative vehicle—the Range Rover Sentinel. This car can deflect bullets, hop curbs, and withstand bomb blasts. And, it is launching this month at London’s Defense and Security Equipment Show.
If you are enrolled in a mechanic training program, read on to learn more about the impressive specs and features of Jaguar Land Rover’s brand-new security vehicle.
A Bulletproof Body Inspired by Military Mechanics
Modern mechanic training will teach you to work with diagnostic software, modern plastics, computer systems and other materials that go into maintaining a car. Military vehicles and armoured cars (which are typically used by politicians and Popes) apply the same mechanics to specialized, near-impermeable materials.
For example, the Range Rover Sentinel lives up to its guardsman name. In a high-security Special Vehicle Operations Centre near Coventry, England, mechanics worked to build the Sentinel—which is based on the company’s earlier Autobiography model. Auto pros disassembled and rebuilt the Autobiography with military-grade features hidden beneath its sleek exterior.
John Edwards, managing director of Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations, says the Sentinel is “expertly engineered by Special Vehicle Operations to provide class-leading levels of protection to occupants against extreme attack.”
It’s as bulletproof as a VR8 standard vehicle can be; certified to withstand penetration by 7.62mm high velocity, armor piercing incendiary bullets, has lateral protection against up to 15kg of TNT blasts and defense against explosions from both beneath the floor and above the roof. The standard glass on the vehicle has been swapped out for multi-laminated armor bulletproof privacy glass.
This means even rounds from an AK-47 assault rifle and launched grenades can’t harm the Sentinel’s passengers.
Mechanical Specs of the Range Rover Sentinel
What sets this car apart from other armoured luxury vehicles, are its excellent automotive abilities. In some extremely dangerous situations, being bulletproof is great, but having the mechanics to veer off-road and out of the action is even better.
Graduates of automotive training schools value a tactile approach to car maintenance and care. They are the experts who not only diagnose problems, but come up with hands-on solutions. It’s these professionals who craft the Sentinel to its premium functioning level, and justify its $450,000 price tag.
Under a hood made of high-strength steel, the Sentinel features a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine with 250kw paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. At its core (which happens to be a specially-developed, six-piece armoured passenger cell), the Sentinel is a sport utility vehicle, maximizing its potential for high mechanical performance in a range of environments.

The Changing Role of High-Security Vehicles
The Sentinel’s role as an SUV is a part of what sets it apart from other armoured vehicles. Experts say it signifies a trend away from “big, plush armoured Sedans” like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Guard or the BMW7 Series High Security.
The Sentinel is the only car of its kind able to hop a curb and speed away from a variety of dangerous surroundings. In the changing elite automotive world, armoured SUVs just reached VIP status. And with the right training, you can earn yourself a secure place in this exclusive and rewarding industry.
