Patience is a virtue, as they say. Despite not seeing a substantial redesign for the better part of a decade, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is expected to enter the 2022 model year with a fresh new look. Not only is the model known for its robust off-road capabilities, the new Grand Cherokee offers a more modernized design than its predecessor, along with several other excellent specs available as options.
Although we will need to wait for official details about the 2022 Grand Cherokee as they become available, the reports we’ve heard so far about its anticipated features are enough to excite any SUV enthusiast. Read on to find out more about the newest edition of this iconic Jeep model!

What’s New in the 2022 Model Year and What’s Been Improved

Perhaps the most striking feature of the 2022 model is the sleek-modern appearance of its two-row design, anticipated to look similar to that of the three-row Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Jeep is also expected to offer numerous trim levels for the 2022 Grand Cherokee, with some being more standard in nature, and others more terrain-friendly. The latter could very well feature a two-speed transfer case, which would allow drivers greater ease on off-road trails. More environmentally-conscious drivers will also be attracted to the plug-in hybrid 4Xe powertrain expected to be included in this model—the first electric powertrain in the Grand Cherokee’s history.

Performance and Engine: What Those With an Auto Mechanic Career Should Know

Automotive college students will be intrigued by the new Grand Cherokee’s engine and performance capabilities. While official details have yet to be released, it’s expected that its standard engine could be a 3.6L V6 with 290 hp and 257 lb-ft of torque, while the optional 5.7L V8 engine could boast 357 hp and 390 lb-ft. If its towing capacity matches that of last year’s L model, the 2022 Grand Cherokee could tow as much as 7,200 lbs.
Although most standard variants of the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee are expected to have rear-wheel drive as standard, four-wheel drive is also an option. Standard rear-wheel drive models are expected to have a fuel economy of 26 mpg (11 km/l), with the optional AWD model expected to have as little as 14 mpg (6 km/l).

Other Features: What Makes the 2022 Grand Cherokee Stand Out

Many of the 2022 Grand Cherokee’s features and design are expected to bear similarities to last year’s Grand Cherokee L model. Aside from the aforementioned two-row seating rather than three, the 2022 Grand Cherokee also has a smaller wheelbase. Its interior is also expected to boast quilted leather upholstery—at least, in its more advanced trims. Based on test photos that have surfaced on the Internet, the new Grand Cherokee looks like it will have shorter rear doors, as well as an inverted two-row lower bumper grille. Those with an auto mechanic career should note that its D-pillar also bears a different shape than the 2021 Grand Cherokee L. The 2022 model’s interior is expected to feature an 8.4” touchscreen display as standard (with an available 10.1” screen), and 10” heads-up display and 10.3” digital gauge cluster may also be included.
