According to Forbes, Toyota sold 10.2 million vehicles in 2016, coming in about 100,000 units shy of Volkswagen’s record-breaking amount. Under Toyota’s umbrella of car brands are Lexus, Daihatsu, and Scion. Although Toyota and its brands didn’t take the crown this year, they managed to improve their year over year sales by 1.3 per cent.

As graduates of auto repair school likely know, General Motors is a company that also tends to dominate the vehicle market. In 2016, GM sold 267,341 vehicles in Canada and their vehicle deliveries in China rose by 7.1 per cent, totalling 3,870,587 vehicles.
GM owns many distinct car brands like Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, GMC, and more. Already in 2017, the Chevrolet Volt experienced its best-ever January sales, which were up by 56 per cent. With electric vehicles rapidly growing in popularity, the Volt could bring GM and its brand Chevrolet to new heights in 2017, if the trend continues.
