A New EV that Can Recharge in 15 Minutes? What Students in Auto Mechanic School Need to Know
For the past several years, Tesla has dominated the luxury electric vehicle market. But times are changing. In 2015 Porsche announced its goal to design its brand’s very first all-electric vehicle (EV). Porsche does have several hybrid vehicle options, but a full-fledged EV is a new venture for the brand. The announcement came with some pretty hefty promises. The proposed vehicle’s incredible charge time, mileage, and design will rival Tesla—if Porsche delivers on its promises.

Students in Auto Mechanic School Might Know the Mission E was Unveiled in 2015
It has been two long years since Porsche revealed its Concept Study Mission E at the annual Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland. The new Porsche took the world by storm with its promise of an impressive recharge time of only 15 minutes. Sounds pretty unbelievable, right? The car is being designed with racetrack driving performance in mind as well.
Detlev von Platen, Porsche Cars North America’s former CEO, explains the idea behind the quick charge time: “If you’re having some fun on the track, waiting 6 hours to recharge would bother you. That’s why we are working so hard on a technology that would charge the battery in 15 minutes.”
Von Platen clarifies that Porsche doesn’t want to produce just another electric vehicle. They want to produce a Porsche, in all its glory, with an electric engine. However, car enthusiasts will have to wait a bit longer to find out if Porsche has succeeded. The vehicle isn’t set to officially launch for another several years. However, you can get a preview by checking out this video:
Students in Auto Mechanic School May Find the Mission E’s Specs Impressive
The claim that the Mission E will be able to recharge 80 per cent of its battery in just 15 minutes is impressive, but it’s not the only thing for professionals with car mechanics training to look forward to. The Mission E is true to form for Porsche, packed with plenty of jaw-dropping and innovative features. This EV won’t sacrifice power or speed just to call itself electric; it can accelerate from zero to 100 kph in just 3.5 seconds and go up to 200 kph in 12. With a top speed of 250 kph, there’s no doubt the Mission E will turn heads at the race track. In addition, Porsche claims the vehicle will have a range of almost 500 kilometres on a full charge.
What gives the Mission E its power? Porsche gives credit to a PSM high performance motor. PSM, which stands for permanently excited synchronous machine, is an electric motor with the capability of providing reliable performance, extreme power density, and impressive efficiency no matter the demands put on the vehicle. The Mission E is outfitted with two PSMs, giving it extra performance capabilities.
Students in Auto Mechanic School Will Be Impressed by the Vehicle’s Sleek Design
This Porsche is especially unique because its body is similar to a classic coupe build, but it’s actually a four-door sedan. That doesn’t mean the Mission E is sacrificing its cool factor. The body of the vehicle is lightweight and rides low, creating an ideal center of gravity.
The Mission E keeps the same classic Porsche look that students in auto mechanic school know and love. Although what’s under the hood of this vehicle is different, the exterior design is familiar. That doesn’t mean it’s not beautiful, though. Die-hard Porsche fans will find comfort in the vehicle’s traditional, sleek design.
The interior of the car has modern technological features, enough to satisfy both a car lover and technology enthusiast. The driver’s dashboard display uses virtual OLED technology and can be customized by the driver. Perhaps one of the Mission E’s coolest features is its eye tracking capabilities, which let the driver navigate through the car’s menus by steering their gaze towards the specific menu they want to view.
