Classic Trucks at the 6th Annual Clifford Truck Show to Check Our if You’re in Automotive School
Let’s face it—big rigs don’t get nearly enough attention on the automotive scene. Maybe it’s because they’re slow, they’re heavy, and in reality, there’s not too much that can be done to change their look. Despite this, many people (especially in Canada!) are long-time big rig enthusiasts, and travel from truck show to truck show to witness some of the oldest big rigs in Canada.

A Trucking Tradition is Born in Clifford, Ontario
Clifford Ontario is a small, unassuming town northeast of Mississauga, but truck lovers know it as the home of the Annual Clifford Great Lakes Truck Show. Despite its small, rural location, the people of Clifford rally together every year on Canada Day for this very special truck show, where big rig models from as early as the 1950s are put on display. For students attending automotive school, it’s a great opportunity to see the evolution of trucking technology, safety and style.

The theme of the truck show is vintage, therefore, most models usually come from between the eras of the 1950s-1980s. The best part is that there were no prizes—just all around love and appreciation of classic trucks!
Students studying at an automotive training centre would recognize quite a few of the trucks on display Canada Day weekend. This year there was an assortment of old Cabovers trucks—a style where the driver sits over top of the front axle. These trucks were popular all the way from the early 1900s, straight through to the 1950s. Recently, they’re beginning to make a comeback on Canadian highways, mainly because they allow for longer trailers and thus more cargo.
Also on display at the show were several classic International Transtar trucks, Mack trucks, Kenworths, Peterbilts, GMCs and Fords.
