Pagani Huayra BC: The Sold-Out New Hypercar

Italian supercar brand Pagani recently unveiled its limited edition Huayra BC at the Geneva Motor Show. Each Pagani Huayara BC boasts a starting price of roughly to $2.8 million, but the high price tag did not seem to deter buyers, since all 20 units of the model sold before the show even started!

Pagani: A Brief History for Students in Automotive Training

If you’re planning to start an auto career, you probably know that the Pagani name is synonymous with some of the most exquisite cars in the world. Something that students in automotive training school might not know is that not only does Pagani build dream cars, but the company also manufactures carbon fibre.
Founder Horacio Pagani used to work for Lamborghini managing its composites, until he decided to start his own company in 1988. He named his company Pagani Composite Research and worked with Lamborghini on several projects, which included the restyling of the Countach, the LM002, and the legendary Diablo.
By 1991, Pagani had already started working on the design of his own car, called the Fangio F1, which he began building in 1992. In 1994, Mercedes-Benz agreed to supply Pagani with 12-cylinder engines built by the company’s AMG arm. Pagani used the V12 in its first fully-constructed prototype which was finally named the Zonda C12.
In 1999, Pagani unveiled the first Zonda in Geneva and in 2005, Pagani announced plans to triple production over the next three years and enter the U.S. market by 2007. By 2011, Pagani launched the original Huayra at the Geneva Motor Show.

The Pagani Huayra: A Name Students in Automotive Training Should Know

The Huayra BC’s name comes from two different sources of inspiration. Huayra come from the Incan god of wind Wayra Tata , while the initials BC come from the late Italian-American real estate giant Benny Caiola–who was close friends with Horacio Pagani.

The Huayra BC uses rigid composite materials in the body and suspension, making it 291lbs. lighter than the original. During your automotive training, you’ll learn how the use of carbon fibre in auto bodies contributes to a lighter weight, but Pagani took things to the next level. The carbon fibre used in the Huayra is made from a new compound that’s 50 per cent lighter and 20 per cent stronger than any other carbon fibre used today. The Huayra BC even has carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes and tires that are 3 per cent lighter!
The Huayra BC’s engine is what’s used in the standard Huayra—a twin-turbocharged 6.0 litre Mercedes-AMG V12. The performance got a bump, though, making it capable of producing 789 horsepower and 811 lb-ft of torque. From a dead stop, the Huayra BC can go from 0-100km/h in under 3 seconds.
The Huayra BC’s engine is bolted to an all-new 7-speed transmission that has synchronizers made of carbon fibre. This technology is typically reserved for some of the world’s most expensive race cars. This might be part of the reason why the Huayra BC sold out so quickly.
