Thirty years ago, BMW introduced the first M5, the fastest production sedan in the world at the time. Over the years, the BMW M5 has been the darling of countless car aficionados, professionals with auto mechanic training and students in mechanic school. To mark this landmark anniversary, BMW has launched a special edition of the performance-hungry BMW M5 named 30 Jahre M5, or “30 years of the M5”. The automaker will be offering a limited production run of this special Anniversary Edition, with only 30 models making their way to North America, and 300 being produced in total.
The 30 Jahre M5’s 4.4-litre V8 engine can produce a robust 592bhp and 700Nm of torque. This makes the anniversary model of the M5 the most powerful BMW M5 ever made and easily the most powerful car in the history of the M brand. The new M5 can reach 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds, thanks to a 40 bhp power bump integrated in the car. The special edition comes with the Competition Package, which contains modifications including a 10 mm drop in ride height and a revised chassis setup with firmer tuning.

Special signature

The limited edition comes with BMW’s individual paint shade, Frozen Dark Silver metallic. The rest of the car, including the badge on the front wing, the door handle inserts, the twin exhaust pipes and kidney grille surround all come in black chrome, separating the special edition from the regular M5.
For the interior, the German automaker has also made a number of improvements, including series number inscriptions integrated into the aluminium trim strip on the front passenger side of the cabin. Special lettering is also featured in the door sills and embroidered into the backrests of all four seats. It’s possible to customize the high-end surround sound system, as the customer can choose between a 1,200-watt Bang & Olufsen system, which comes with a stunning 16 speakers, or a 600 watt Harman Kardon unit.

Limited edition

To reserve one of the limited edition models, customers must call a special hotline. Starting on May 17th, the German automaker gave away the number in parts through the brand’s North American Instagram channel, then revealed it in full on May 21st.
Along with the purchase of a 30th Anniversary Edition BMW M5, the new car owners received an invite to the M Driving School at The Thermal Club in Palm Springs, California. This one-day event will allow customers to get the most out of their brand new M5, and to get a better understanding of the history of the model.
